This book tells of moments in Arnold Bennett’s life as seen through the eyes of his life-long friend Frederick Marriott.  Marriott wrote an affectionate and amusing memoir which John has used to take a fresh look at Bennett’s life. 

We learn about Bennett’s early years in London and the crucial role of Marriott in introducing his friend to artists of the day.  Marriott remained at his friend’s side through many key moments, and his memoir offers a unique insight into Bennett’s private life. 

It is the first publication of the entire Marriott manuscript and with an extensive addition of illustrations and notes, it offer an entertaining and informative biography.
