New Arnold Bennett Plaques unveiled in Burslem

On Saturday 24th July five more blue and white plaques were added to the “Bursley Trail” in Burslem. In addition to further replacements of brown plaques put up three decades ago, a brand new plaque commemorating “The Shambles” – the Burslem Meat Market which dominated the East end of Burslem town square next to the old Town Hall and which is mentioned in The Old Wives’ Tale, Clayhanger, Jock at a Venture and elsewhere – is on The White House, which houses Barewall Gallery.
